The anticipation for your wedding day continues to grow the closer it gets. For some people, this can be very unnerving and cause anxiety or worry. This is the LAST thing we want for any bride or groom. Our entire business is stemmed around making sure you have a stress-free wedding (including the time before the big day). For some people, it might be the worry that not every single detail will be perfect. Or, it might be being the centre of attention. And for others, it might be difficult to ascertain or to put into words. These are all common and normal feelings, however, there are ways to remain present on the big day so you can better soak up the love, electricity, and excitement that you should feel when marrying the love of your life.
Set expectations
Setting expectations will help you and those around you, understand what you need from them on the day. Setting expectations for yourself, your partner, your friends, family, as well as your vendors will ensure you’re all on the same page. It’ll also help you cut some slack for yourself and sweating the small stuff.
Don’t Overcommit
Trying to pack too much into a day, or not giving your run sheet enough wiggle room is a formula for stress. Make sure you’ve given yourself enough time to breathe in between the ceremony, reception, photos, cake, dinner, first dance, and so on. You don’t want to feel like you’re clock-watching or rushing around to stay on time.
Delegate
Things go wrong – it’s the nature of a major event or production like a wedding. This is why you should ensure you’ve hired enough help to deal with any hiccups that may occur. These are professional people who have done this dozens, if not hundreds, of times. They are there to make your day run smoothly, trust them and let them do their job. This will free you up to soaking up the atmosphere and enjoy yourself.
Practice mindfulness
Practicing mindfulness will help put those nerves at ease. Using visualisation of your wedding day will help wire your brain into a relaxed, present state. Learning some breathing techniques is also a great thing to do not only for the days prior to your wedding, but should you feel the excitement get the better of you on the day, you can practice your breathing then and there. And the best part? No one will even know you’re doing it.
Remember why you’re here
Focus on the love you have for your partner and how excited you are to be wed, instead of worrying about the drinks being cold enough, the food hot enough or the tunes fun enough. It is enough. You’re enough. Your love is enough. This is your day.
