It’s hard to mention planning a wedding without following up with the word: COVID. It’s a reality we’ve quickly had to become accustomed to, and what we’re loving is how couples have been embracing the changes that come with a global pandemic (Wow, we never thought we’d start a blog like that!).
The truth of the matter is that COVID-19 is a part of our lives and our foreseeable future. And it’s OK! Your wedding will still be fab, filled with love and intimacy and all the good things. Regrettably one of the key impacts of this virus is its effects on your guest list – perhaps you have family and friends from interstate or overseas who cannot attend the day. Thankfully with the technology available at our fingertips, you can still involve these guests by way of live-streaming. Live-streaming has become common practice at our weddings of late, and we have a few tips you may find helpful.
1. Choose a platform ahead of time.
It’ll come as no surprise that we’re suggesting you plan for your live-streaming ahead of time. We like to use Facebook as it’s easily accessible and most people know how to use it. We suggest creating a private group or event on Facebook with only those who we know can’t make it. Bonus: after you stop streaming, you can post the video in the group so you can watch it later!
2. Dedicate a person.
Ok so here is where we tell you, if you’re getting married, you cannot – we repeat – you cannot be in charge of the live-stream. LOL! Our gorgeous couples try to do as much as they can and often find themselves in a pickle in moments like this. Find a person, brief them, and let them handle it on the day.
3. Do a test run.
Once you have a dedicated person and private group set up, do a test run. The person in charge of the Live will need to be in the group and have access to posting, so a test is crucial!
4. Equipment.
It’s relatively easy to set up the live-steaming, but equipment is key. Here is a list of what you’ll need:
- Phone (with internet connection)
- Tripod for phone
- Portable charger (just in case).
5. Find a spot.
With your wedding coordinator, find a safe and secure spot to have the livestream set up. Close enough so those who are watching can hear and see what is going on. But not too close to get in the view of your guests who are in attendance and especially not in the way of your photographer.
